It was difficult to classify this place – and as I write this there are few online descriptions. I’m going for ‘snack place’ or ‘eatery’ to describe it, but that doesn’t mean you cannot get a complete meal at Yacht Cafe. Also, if you fancy a coffee and a light bite, it’s a good place to choose too.

As far as I know they are only open at lunch time and if you’re planning a visit it would be a good idea to think ahead. Finding a place to sit might be a slight issue. The place is tiny, with 4 tables inside and a couple outside (with a gorgeous view on a sunny day if you don’t mind a close proximity to traffic) and from what I gather, it is inundated with office types during the week. You can tell that most of them are regulars, know what they like off the menu already and are on first name basis with the owners. There’s something special about places like this.

If you’re new, the staff is friendly, welcoming and willing to make your eating experience a very pleasant one. It’s also helpful that they are eager to explain the menu, literally show you what’s fresh in their salad display and give you a taster if you’re (excuse the pun) green in this area. You have to give them points for showing you exactly what you’ll be eating.

Pictured below is the Lebanese salad which includes falafel, couscous, stuffed vine leaves, tomatoes, lettuce, rucola, peppers, carrots and olives topped with a yoghurt dressing. Did I mention that this is a great place for vegetarians? However, I also ordered a side dish of juicy lamb koftas. Everything was fresh, delicious and mouth-watering.

They have a small selection of homemade sweets and a random display of fine foods too. Over all it is a cute little place which I’m sure to visit again when I want a no-fuss lunch or snack and I don’t mind fetching my own drink from the fridge. Sometimes you’re in that mood and there’s no denying that Yacht Cafe presses the right buttons.

Suitable for: a casual lunch, snacking, catching up over coffee

Price: agreeable, worth the work that goes into the salad and fresh quality of the food in general
