Peel and quarter your potatoes. Place them in hot/boiling water and cook until a knife pierces them easily. You should feel no ‘crunch’ inserting the knife to know they are well cooked.

Place them in a large bowl and start mashing. Add a tablespoon or so of butter and some salt. Then, according to taste you may add cream and fresh chopped chives.

    People often think it is very easy to make mashed potato but actually you can feel the different taste in different restaurants. Sometimes, there are like you mention the crunches in the mashed which reduce the tasty flavor of the meal. Now I grind the boiled potato so all will be soft and no crunch.
